The NCDOT is taking measures to reduce construction noise:

During Construction:
  • Set a speed limit on construction site of 25 mph
  • Had contractor remove very loud equipment
  • Making sure equipment is in good condition with appropriate muffler devices
  • Requested paving operators limit reverse driving

There is a specific transportation noise consultant under contract that will perform an independent evaluation of the night time construction.
 
Post Construction:
  • Changed road surface treatment at an additional cost of $2 million, to a ‘diamond cut’, which reduces traffic noise
  • Planned additional plantings in the Highcroft and Camden Park area to increase buffer
